CHINNA NAIDOO FAMILY FOUNDATION
October 1908 to 17 September 1985

                                   

Chinna Naidoo was born in October 1908 in Anakapelli, Visakhapat- nam on the East Coast of India.

 

He was 1yr and 9mths when he came to South Africa with his parents, Seragadam Appanna (father), Atchamma (mother), and siblings; Appalnaidoo and Ramulamma. He was 7yrs old when his father’s period of indenture ended, and the family relocated to Sezela, the beautiful seaside resort on the KZN South Coast, rich in beautiful vegetation and abundant marine life.

He married Mahalutchmee and they raised their family in Sezela. Chinna started working at the Reynolds Brothers Sugar Mill as a secretary, and progressed to the position of Sirdar and eventually ended his career as a foreman in the sugar room in 1970.

Chinna Naidoo was instrumental in initiating and funding education, developing and maintaining a temple and helped with the formation of sporting clubs and other social bodies. Chinna was a soft spoken and humble man. He believed in helping people and he was a problem solver. He was a prominent member of the Sezela community. He was a keen gardener and fisherman and he enjoyed surf fishing

Chinna and Mahalutchee had 12 children, 2 of whom passed away at an early age. Appiamma (Mummy), Saraspathie (Bobby), Narainamma (Narain), Janaki (Baby), deceased girl child - died at 4 days old, Appana (Billy), Atchiamma (Neela), Sanasamma (Umsie), Vengetas (Chinnie), Soornarain (Sunny), Swadevi (Chilka), Bremmarani (Rani) - died age 4 in 1959.
